There’s no better way to remember a special trip than collecting souvenirs and sharing memories with friends and family back home through personally curated care packages; the tradition of “omiyage” describes just that. On this omiyage tour, we’ll explore famous landmarks and sites, immerse ourselves in northern Japanese culture, and shop with an eye towards specialty items that not only you will enjoy, but also your loved ones when you show them that you’ve been thinking about them too!  

 

First, we’ll visit Hokkaido’s capital city, Sapporo, which propelled it into international fame when it hosted the 1972 Olympic Winter Games. Today, the city is best recognized for its ramen, beer, coffee shops and cafes, and unique European style architecture. Next, a journey to Otaru, a beautiful port town with rich cultural history. Then, on our way to Asahikawa, Hokkaido's 2nd largest city, we’ll stop at Sunagawa Highway Oasis. This oasis is truly a shopper’s paradise, offering an eclectic mix of Hokkaido specialties all under one roof (and it’s duty free!). Once in Asahikawa, we’ll slurp savory ramen, sample famous soy sauce and sake, meander through aisles of goodies, and gaze upon bursts of yellow in bloom at Takikawa Nanohana Festival —home to the largest canola flower field in Japan.  

 

Here’s a preview of some of the favorite sites: Okurayama ski lift, Nijo Fish Market, Tanukikoji Shopping St, Otaru, Kamaboko (local favorite saimin topping fish cake) factory tour, a whisky factory visit, Shiroi Koibito Park (Ishiya chocolate company’s theme park), Ueno Farm, a sake brewery visit, Sunagawa Sweet Road, and a complete free day at leisure! 

  

Your Hokkaido Memorial Day Omiyage Weekender 2023 - includes: 

  • Round trip airfare via Hawaiian Airlines from Honolulu. 
  • Note: Airline baggage fees are additional and paid directly to the carrier. 
  • 5 nights’ accommodations in centrally located hotels. 
  • All sightseeing with local English-speaking guide throughout the tour 
  • Admission fees included based on itinerary. 
  • Inflight meals, breakfast daily at your hotel. 
  • All transportation via private charter bus. 
  • All tour related taxes included in the price.

  • Reserve with $75 per person deposit, refundable up to 60 days prior to departure, March 28, 2023 
  • Final payment due by April 9, 2023. Package is non-refundable after this date. 
  • Special Assistance: You must inform us of any disability/impairment that requires special attention at the time of your making the reservation. We reserve the right to cancel the reservation(s) if the disability/impairment is unsuitable for the tour. You are also responsible for any costs and/or accommodations related to your disability/impairment, such as providing your own travel companion.

  • A minimum of 16 participants is required for the tour to operate. 
  • A valid passport is required of all U.S. citizens & must be valid at least 6 months from the return tour date. Non-U.S. passport holders must check with the Japanese Consulate to see if a visa is required. 
  • Land tour costs are based on current currency conversion rates, which are subject to change. 
  • Air ticket fare is guaranteed, but taxes, fees and fuel surcharges are subject to change until tickets are issued, approximately 45 days out.

05/27/23 – Depart Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines flight 441 at 2:15 pm and arrives in Chitose at 5:50 pm, 05/28/23 

06/02/23 – Depart Chitose on Hawaiian Airlines flight 442 at 7:50 pm and arrive in Honolulu at 8:10 am (same day).
